16TH NEW ZEALAND FUNGAL FORAY
                                   OKURU
                           5th ? 12th MAY, 2002
DEADLINES:
Registration and payment of deposit: 28th March 2002

The 16th New Zealand Fungal Foray, 5th ? 12th May, will be held at Okuru,
lower West Coast South Island, New Zealand. Okuru is a small village near
Haast at the southern end of the South Island's beautiful West Coast.
Okuru is close to collecting sites ranging from sand dunes and coastal
estuaries to Mount Aspiring National Park with Nothofagus forest and alpine
tussock. Participants could travel further north to visit the Fox and
Franz Joseph Glaciers. The foray will begin Sunday evening 5th May, ending
on Sunday morning 12th May.

The programme will involve daily collecting, identification, and provision
of display tables of the day's finds, followed in the evening by informal
talks. Wednesday 8th May is set aside for a Mycology Colloquium where
participants can present talks or posters on any aspect of mycology.
Interested participants are invited to submit a title with their
registration form.

Accommodation and Meals:
Accommodation is at Haast Beach Holiday Park, Haast Beach-Jackson Bay Road,
Haast Beach (Okuru). There is regular accommodation for 40 in a range of
units from dormitory (8 people/room) to twin and double. Towels and linen
(sheets, blankets, and pillow cases) are not supplied but they have a
limited amount of linen available for hire. To avoid going without, it is
strongly recommended you bring your own. In addition to the regular
accommodation, there is a self-contained cabin (with 1 double bed and 2
single beds) and 2 motel units (one sleeping 5 and one sleeping 6).

If you wish to book one of the motel units or the self contained cabin,
instead of the regular accommodation, please arrange this privately, though
mention that you are part of the Fungal Foray. Contact: Haast Beach
Holiday Park, Haast Beach-Jackson Bay Road (P.O. Box 8), Haast Beach, New
Zealand; phone/fax +64 3 750 0860; email: pgglubb at xtra.co.nz.

We are planning to have the evening meals prepared for us by locals at
Okuru. We will buy our own food collectively for breakfasts and lunches
and prepare these ourselves. If you have particular food requirements then
please make a note on the registration form. Participants should note that
Okuru is a very small town. It has a shop and there is petrol and a shop
at Haast Beach and again at Haast Village but the nearest large town (with
supermarkets etc) is Wanaka, about 3 hours drive away. International
visitors will most likely fly in to Queenstown via Christchurch.

Transportation:
For overseas participants, please correspond with us so that we can assist
with internal travel arrangements. It is about a 3 and a half hour drive
from Queenstown to Okuru so it would be helpful to know people's planned
arrival times so we can minimise the number of trips. For New Zealand
participants, please let us know if road transport is difficult and we will
look at options of car-pooling.

Costs:
Approximately NZ$50 per person per day for those staying in the regular
accommodation, as a share of actual costs which include food and
accommodation. This price does not include the cost of getting to the
venue, or privately organised accommodation upgrades.

Registration:
Please register for the foray by completing the registration form and
return it by 28 March 2002.

All participants, please send the registration form to: Paula Wilkie,
Landcare Research, Private Bag 92170, Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand
participants should also include a deposit of NZ$50 (cheques payable to
'Foray Account'). To avoid currency conversion difficulties, Australian
participants need not send a deposit with the registration form.
