ALS vs. superoxide dismutase

Around Nov of 1992 there appeared in the New England Journal a paper
showing that ALS patients had high antibody titers to a Ca channel.
Does anyone have any idea how that result fits in with the new
superoxide dismutase result, if at all? Has anyone who has read the
paper been able to tell whether the authors comment on it? For that
matter, are they even talking about the same form of ALS?
