Ketogenic Diet and Epilepsy?

Does anyone know if this Ketogenic Diet, which is still in use
at John's Hopkins, is a scam or not?

Apparently high fat in childhood epilepsy can cure the syndrome
without medication - cheaply, safely.

Does anyone speculate on a mechanism? Maybe cholesterol stabilizes
membranes to be less hypersensitive or less "depolarized", etc.?
