Spectral EEG

Can someone steer me to a _basic_ reference regarding acquisition and
interpretation of spectral EEGs?  All the ones I've found feel very much
like asking someone to memorize the stereochemistry of octane oxidation,
when all they want to do is drive the car!  :)
