A widely publicized report seen on tv in the early 80s reported that
at around 110 oF (e.g. in unrefridgerated pop on a truck under
a bright sun) aspartame breaks down, and methanol is one of the
resulting compounds.  Whether such breakdown actually occurs in
the food supply is another question.
