Sustained release neuroleptics

Has anyone given thought to the therapeutic, economic, and receptor
modulation ramifications of sustained-release (3 or more days) common
neuroleptic pharmaceutical preparations.  If consideration of the above
warrented additional thought on the subject, are there chemical properties
of these compounds that attentuate the likely of the development of such
preparations?
