Retts/hyperventilation

I have a patient with a condition (Pitt-Rogers syndrome) with a breathing
disorder similar to that in Rett's syndrome.  She hyperventilates, becomes
hypocarbic, apneic and then extremely hypoxic (SAO2 < 50%) up to 20 times
per hour. Respiratory control during sleep is normal. Various attempts to
treat have been unsuccessful including acetozolamide, nasal CPAP and O2.
