L. Frederick Zaman III has proposed that electromagnetic fields,
bioelectromagnetic, electromagnetic induction are important concepts
to understand conscious experience.
IMHO the physic of electomagnetic induction are not necessary to
understand conscious. Why? Use the concept of dominos falling
and hiting each other. Matter does not TOUCH another piece of matter
normally. What is touching is the electromagetic fields of the
electrons in orbit causing the transmission of the force of one
falling domino to push the other domino. So Zaman is correct that
electromagnetic induction is occuring and is at least worth exploring
as an idea on influencing neurotransmission.
Consciousness to me is more like the observable wave pattern
of the dominos falling. This is a higher order function which
must be built from lower order electromagnetic interactions, via
ions and neurotransmitters. The wave pattern is best understood
as relating to the physics of oscillators. Ron Blue
