thoughts

I know that nobody knows what exactly makes you think something, but is 
there any information on what is physically happening when you think 
something?  Do different things happen when you think about a sound than 
a sight or an idea?  People have told me that the question of what a 
thought is is more philosophical than scientific, but I don't think 
that's true.  Does anyone have any information?
