The affects of smoking on nerve functionality

I suffer from hand pain, burning, and swelling 
that seems directly proportional to how much I 
smoke.  I am trying to determine if there have 
been any studies linking cigaratte smoke to nerve 
functionality impairments.  I would greatly 
appreciate any information you could provide 
regarding such studies and/or appropriate 
persons/facilities to contact.
