Books by W. Grey Walter,one of the greatist neurophyiologists of our time,
would be of great interest to you. He wrote in the 1960's, but was interested
in controlling machines by brainwaves. One of his books is "the Living
Brain"(1953);titles of others escape me at the moment.Actually he did pretty
good in the 1950's , so it might not be as far in the future as you imagine..
