This isnt my specialty, but we did go over a paper yesterday entitled
"Kainate Receptors Mediate a Slow Postsynaptic Current in Hippocampal
CA3 Neurons" by Castillo, Malenka and Nicoll in v388: Jul 10 1997 of
Nature. Page numbers clipped off in my copy :-)

They talk about something called GYKI which blocks AMPA but not
kainate receptors and CNQX which blocks both AMPA and kainate. There
is also some discussion about L-CCG1 which blocks mossy fibre synaptic
transmission.
