A research position will be available at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ,
starting in September, 1998. The NSF-supported research project investigates
a novel mechanism of action for thyroid hormones in adult brain, particularly
with regard to sleep regulation. Highly motivated and creative individuals
with a Ph.D. in a neuroscience-related field are encouraged to apply.
Studies will involve the following: stereotaxic implantations, EEG recordings
in rats, receptor binding determinations, and biochemical assays of
ionotropic receptor activity. Familiarity with patch clamp studies of
expressed recombinant receptors would be desirable, but is not essential.
Support will be available for up to three years, and opportunities to
participate in teaching workshops and community outreach programs will be
offered as part of the overall postdoctoral training.

Camden, NJ, is located across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, PA, with
its numerous cultural attractions. The New Jersey beaches are about 45
minutes away by car and most of the intervening area is the undeveloped
wilderness of the pinelands, where canoeing and hiking are popular
activities. Camden itself is an urban area which is entering a period of
revival and development.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and names of three references to:
