Neurological developmental delay/arrest in specific regions of the brain
in infants born Intra Uterine Growth Retarded (IUGR) and/or dying from
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
We are currently seeking applications from highly motivated candidates
for a Ph.D. studentship. The research is funded by Babes in Arms charity
and carries a student stipend of £9K in the 1st year, £9.5K in the 2nd
year and £10K in the 3rd year. Candidates must have a strong commitment
to biomedical research and hold a First or Upper Second class Honours
Degree in a biological field, some experience in the field of
neuroscience would be useful.
The project involves a detailed cellular morphometric analysis, using
1st and 2nd order stereological techniques, in conjunction with routine
histological techniques and immuno-cytochemistry in the neocortex,
brainstem and midbrain in infants born IUGR and/or dying from SIDS.
