Hi Taddy,

I am a neurologist in an neurorehabilitation unit specialised on severe
brain injury.
key words in searching literature concerning appallic syndrome are
persistent vegetative state
You will find an excellent review in New England Journal of medicine
1995( 2 Parts)
concerning treatment:besides physiotherapy, basal stimulation and music
therapy are options;concerning untreatable spasticity implantation of an
intrathecal baclofen-pump or botulinus-toxin injections could be an
opportunity;if there is really a seven year history of disease the
prognosis might be very poor;most important is not to miss a
locked-in-sydrome

Hope to give you a little help

Yours MD Frank Schmidt
