How about the possibility that some people who believe they have been
abducted really have a form of narcolepsy, i.e. hypnogogic/hypnopompic
hallucinations paired with sleep paralysis?  Alternatively, many people
experience hypnopompic/hypnogogic hallucinations and sleep paralysis and
don't even have narcolepsy.
