There are loads of molecular neuroscience/ physiology books on the
market, the most oft reccomended book is likely Principle of Neural
Science (eds. Kandel, Schwartz, Jessell) which gives a very broad
overview, though if you want to know anything in great detail you will
either have to turn to more specific texts and/or primary research.
Principles of Neural Science also has some chapters on pathology and
the more ambiguous (in scientific terms) arena of consciousness.
