RESEARCH BIOCHEMIST

$42K - $58K (Australian $) + Superannuation

Division of Animal Health, McMaster Laboratory, Prospect  NSW  AUSTRALIA

The Division conducts applied research into the genetics and biochemistry
of anthelmintic resistance.  We wish to appoint a motivated biochemist to
undertake research into the biochemical mechanisms of resistance to
avermectin anthelmintics in nematode parasites of sheep.

You will develop and test methods to enhance bioassay techniques and
investigate mechanisms of action and resistance to the
avermectin/milbemycin class of anthelmintics in parasites and parasite
tissue.   You will interact with molecular biologists to develop sensitive
biochemical or DNA  based systems for the detection of avermectin
resistance.

You will need detailed knowledge, skills and  proven research ability in
biochemistry, pharmacology and bioassays of pesticide action.  You will
need a general understanding of parasitology and the ability to head a
small research group.
