I am refering to the following article:

Sharma, L.K. 1994. Efficacy of Jantana, a herbal preparation against
gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep and goats. Indian Vet. J. 71:1123-1124

Does anyone have any knowledge of this preparation, tried it or have trial
results on this. In the article the feacal egg counts after treatment went
down to 0. Nowhere in the article is there any mention if slaughter trials
where also conducted at the end of the trial. I refered this article to
people Onderstepoort Institute in South Africa ±2 years ago. Although they
managed to get some of the preparation from India, the did not do much work
on it and everyone involved left the service without any real answer to the
questions I had. However, the there was a definite decrease in egg count
and the faecal egg counts stayed negative for a very long time. Animals
slaughter at 25 days post treatment, with negative egg counts, still had
adult female nematodes present. The question then was, how long does it
take for the worms to dissapear and what the action of the preparation
against the nematodes where.
I have a list of the ingredients of the Jantana preparation and these range
from claimed anthelmintics to herbs that are laxatives.

If anyone have any knowledge or have done any work with Jantana, please let
me know
