The Research Unit for Tropical Diseases
(http://www.icp.ucl.ac.be/trop/) of the Christian de Duve Institute
of Cellular Pathology (ICP) (http://www.icp.ucl.ac.be/) in Brussels,
Belgium, searches for March 1st, 2003, a post-doctoral fellow with
experience in bioinformatics, genome analysis, database access, Blast
searches, phylogenetic analyses, and knowledge of the Unix platform,
Perl script etc. and an interest in molecular evolution.

The candidate will be integrated in a multidisciplinary team studying
various aspects of trypanosome carbohydrate metabolism and glycosome
biogenesis. Glycosomes are unique peroxisome-like organelles in
trypanosomatids, which are thought to have resulted from the loss of
an algal endosymbiont early in evolution. Genomic information will be
searched in order to collect evidence for the presence of plant-like
traits in genome these organisms and to identify genes of plant or
cyanobacterial affiliation than now code for glycosomal functions. He
or she will also support other members of the team with his or her
expertise in bioinformatics.

Further information about post-doctoral fellowships at the ICP are
available from our website: http://www.icp.ucl.ac.be/fellowship.html
en from
Prof Fred Opperdoes at the address below, to whom should also be sent
applications.
