Who is Nobody? Photosyn email security

I have received a few inquiries about the email distribution of the
Photosynthesis newsgroup. The messages now arrive with "To: Nobody at ..." in
the header information.

Do not worry about this. To eliminate some persons from hacking the
membership email list, the computer mailing out the newsgroup items sends
all items to the true Photosyn/bionet mailing list, but puts the generic
"Nobody" address in the "TO:" part of the header. This prevents some
hackers from being able to intercept the mailing and fiddle with the list.

I do not know the methods these hackers use to get into the lists, but they
do get in on occasion and the Biosci people think this will slow them down.
A more mysterious question is why these people want to hack the lists,
don't they have more to do with their lives?

Larry, moderator et al.
