DIRECTOR - GENE TECHNOLOGIES LABORATORY.
Applications are sought from individuals with capabilities and
interests in supervising and developing modern techniques for
analysis of genes and their functions. Management of a state-of-the-
art DNA sequencing and synthesis laboratory that provides services and
training to the campus community is the primary responsibility.
Laboratory personnel presently include three full-time and two part-
time technicians. Major equipment includes an ABI 373A sequencer, a
Biomek 2000 robotic workstation, several oligonucleotide
synthesizers, and a Fujix BAS 2000 phosphorimaging system. Since
opportunities exist for the expansion of services for localization
of macromolecules and video imaging, familiarity with SUN and Silicon
Graphics workstations, imaging instrumentation, light microscopy and
computer programs and interfaces is highly desirable. Candidates will
have a Ph.D. and demonstrated practical experience in molecular
biological techniques. The position carries a competitive 12-month
salary plus benefits. Informal enquiries by e-mail (tim at bio.tamu.edu)
or fax (409-862-4098) are encouraged; applicants should send a vita
and names of three references to: Dr. Timothy C. Hall, IDMB, Texas A&M
University, College Station, TX 77843-3155.
Please note that the above position is not a tenure-accruing
position. Although opportunities exist for collaboration with other
faculty and for teaching activities related to the GTL and
imaging functions, the position is primarily intended to be a service-
oriented role.
