Second Announcement and Application Forms

PHOTOSYNTHETIC MEMBRANES:
BIOGENESIS AND ADAPTATION
University of British Columbia - Vancouver, B.C., Canada
July 31- Aug.2, 1997
Associated with the joint ASPP/CSPP/JSPP/ASSP Conference, Aug. 2-6, 1997

Aim: to bring together researchers and students working on any aspect of
chloroplast biogenesis, physiological adaptation,
photoproteiction/photoinhibition or any aspect of the light reactions of
photosynthesis. People who will have posters at the ASPP conference might
like to present their results in person at this meeting, where they would
have a more focussed audience and opportunity for some real discussions.

 Keynote Speakers:
Neil Hoffman, Carnegie Institution, Stanford. "Thylakoid Membrane Assembly:
Structure and Function of Chloroplast signal Recognition Particle"

Norman Huner, University of Western Ontario. "Environmental Regulation of
Light Energy Converting Processes"

General Information
All sessions will be held on the campus of the University of
British Columbia, in the Woodward Instructional Resources Building. The
only exception will be the opening reception on Thursday evening, which
will be held in the Fireside Lounge, Gage Towers.
We hope to be able to schedule as many people as possible to speak
for 15 min. in the three half-day session. On Aug.1 there will be an
all-day poster session, either in the concourse adjoining the lecture halls
or in a neighbouring room. Coffee will be served at breaks and a picnic
buffet lunch on Aug.1. Soft drinks and snacks are available at all times
from vending machines.
The Third International Symposium on Inorganic Carbon Utilization
by Aquatic Photosynthetic Organisms will be meeting July 27 to Aug.1. Its
sessions will take place in an adjoining lecture hall, and we will probably
share a common poster space on Aug.1. Contact Brian Colman
(colman at unicaat.yorku.ca or fax 416-736-5698) or check the ASPP website
(http://www.aspp.org/meetings/) for more information.
The ASPP/CSPP/JSPP/ASSP sessions start the afternoon of Aug.2 and
take place in downtown hotels. Bus service to downtown is good.
 Accommodations:
We have reserved a block of rooms in Gage Towers (UBC Conference
Centre) on campus for the two satellite conferences. Six single rooms share
a bathroom, kitchenette and small common space and cost $33 (Can.) per
night plus tax. Arrangements should be made directly with the Conference
Centre using the attached form.
It may be possible to arrange to stay there during the big
conference, but most conferees will be staying in hotels downtown closer to
the meeting and various amenities. Wherever you decide to stay for the big
conference, you should
