Postdoctoral research positions: LIGHT CONTROL OF CHLOROPLAST DEVELOPMENT
IN ARABIDOPSIS.

Royal Holloway, University of London
School of Biological Sciences

We have two postdoctoral positions, funded by the UK BBSRC, available:

1) Interaction of light and plastid signals in the control of photogene
expression.
This is a three year joint project between Dr. Enrique L=DBpez-Juez and Dr.
Kevin Pyke, in the same department, which will study the relation between
photosynthetic gene expression and the presence/absence of plastids [see
L=DBpez-Juez et al. (1996), in Regulation of Plant Growth and Development
by Light, Briggs et al. (eds.), ASPP. p. 144-152]. The project will
involve the construction of reporter lines and their analysis using
confocal microscopy.

2) Characterisation of cue mutants.
This is a two year project in the laboratory of Dr. L=DBpez-Juez to
characterise new Cab-underexpressor mutants [see Li et al. (1995), Plant
Cell 7, 1599-1610], primarily by studying the gene-expression phenotypes
of a series of double mutants. A new screen will also constitute part of
the work.

Candidates should have experience in a range of molecular biology
techniques. Experience and interest in plant cell biology (1), plant
transformation (1), Arabidopsis genetics (2) and familiarity with computer
data resources and laboratory management will be advantageous. The
appointments will be on the RA1A scale, starting salary =A319061, inclusive
of London allowance.

Royal Holloway provides a dynamic environment for work on chloroplast
biology and photomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis. The college is close to
Windsor and has easy access to central London.

Informal inquiries can be made to Enrique L=DBpez-Juez (telephone +44 1784
443951, fax +44 1784 470756, email e.lopez at rhbnc.ac.uk). Inquiries for
post (1) can also be made to Kevin Pyke (+44 1784 443407,
k.pyke at rhbnc.ac.uk).
Applications, composed of a brief letter stating interest and future
goals, a full cv and the names and addresses of two referees, should be
sent to The Personnel Office, Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham,
Surrey, TW20 0EX, UK. Quote reference CRB/1340 (project 1) or CRB/1341
(project 2).
The closing date is April 30 1997.

We positively welcome applications from all sections of the community.
