hi,
I"m a highschool student from Centennial highschool, Coquitlam, B.C. Canada.
I'm currently doing this huge project for my Fisheries Ecology class. It is
basically a hands-on ecology course.

I'm intrested in the idea of fertilizing the ocean with iron compounds to
increase the productivity. I read all the materials i could find about
IronEx one, two and three. It is certainly very intresting but rather lack
of technical details that i would like to see.

My goal is to create a similar experiment in a closed system (or open?) and
to determind if the experiment will be successful right here, in B.C. I
understand that IronEx has been very successful, but they did it in tropical
waters.

Due to lack of technical details and experience, i have great trouble
designing my own experiment in order to compare the IronEx they did back in
95 and 96. I have an excellent facility to perform this experiment. Our
school operates a sea pan in an Inlet, so i'll have a place to do it. It's
ideal. But i still can't figure out some problems.
For example, what form of iron compound should i use?
how much iron comound should i add per unit volume of water?
how may i do a complete analysis of chemical compounds on sea water?
May i do this experiment in a closed system? or should i do it out there
right in the ocean? I was thinking more like making these plastic sheet
covered big boxes and put it in water. I add iron to one of them and let the
other one sit there. That should be a closed enough system to meet the
experiment requirments. it will probably be cheaper also considering i
might just have to keep dumping iron in water if i did an open system
experiment just like IronEx.

I have many other Qs that i need somebody to anwser. If u know those above
or any kind of ADVISES, SUGGESTIONS, or REFERENCE MATERIALS, CONTACTS.
Plzzzzzz let me know.
Thank you very much.

eric
