A 1-year post-doctoral position is available at the Department of Plant
Physiology at Ume=E5 University, Sweden, with start as soon as possible. If
sufficient resources are given, the fellowship could be prolonged for
The objective is to study the process of autumn senescence in Populus
leaves, using large-scale EST sequencing and multiplex gene expression
analysis. The project is part of the Populus genome program
(http://www.biochem.kth.se/PopulusDB/index.html) a collaboration between
Ume=E5 University, the Swedish Agricultural University and the Royal
Institute of Technology) within the framework of "Center for Forest
Biotechnology and Chemistry" (http://www.plantphys.umu.se/forestbiotech).
The Department of Plant Physiology has a broad competence, with focus on
the molecular biology of photosynthesis. Information about the current
research can be found at (http://www.plantphys.umu.se ).
The applicant should have a solid background in molecular biology,
especially cDNA library construction and sequence analysis, but skills in
plant physiology and biochemistry are advantageous.
Ume=E5 is Sweden's 10th largest town, located in the northern part of Sweden
only 250 km from the arctic circle (http://www.umea.se/eng/), more
extensive in Swedish: http://www.umea.se ), so applicants preferring skiing
rather than surfing will probably be best suited for the position. The
climate is, however, much milder than at corresponding latitudes in North
America, more like that of Newfoundland.
