Red Snow

Hello all,

I could use some help.  I recently came across a reference to 'red snow'.
Much to my surprise, a colleague assured me that this was a phenomenon due
to an alga, specifically some species of Chlamydomonas.  Unfortunately, he
didn't know any more about it or where one might find a reference.

Can anyone point me toward a reference on the red snow phenomenon and also
where one might be able to get a culture of the organism?  This sounds like
it has the potential for a neat lab exercise.
