auxin - and apical dominance in forestry species

I have fed auxin and other PGRs to woody plants by threading a wick 
though the xylem, and immersing the other end of the wick in a vial 
containing the solution.  This method is described by Jameson et al. 
1987, Australian Journal of Plant Physiology 14: 695-718.
