There are a number of nice sites that provide systematic information that is 
not readily available, especially to those of us at smaller institutions.  I 
had students use some of these for a plant taxonomy assignment - they looked 
up synonyms, authors, and distributions, and checked certain herbaria for 
type specimens.  Later in the semester, several of them used internet sites 
to research an assignment on a plant family - they were able to look at color 
images, as well as get the sort of verbal descriptions that are available in 
print.
