The University of South Florida seeks a visionary Director/Faculty
Administrator for its Botanical Garden to lead it into the 21st century.
This 12-month continuing position is a senior-level, non-tenure earning,
appointment available in early 1999.  Affiliations are possible with
academic departments such as Environmental Science and Policy and/or
Biology.  The USF Botanical Garden, presently a 6.5-acre facility
situated on a 1,500-acre campus, highlights Florida’s native plants and
includes fruit trees, hardy palms, a bromeliad garden, an herb garden, a
carnivorous plant bog and a riparian forest

must be able to develop and administer a strategic master plan for the
garden, communicate effectively with the general public and university
community, and provide leadership for the staff and in developing
educational programs.  The qualified individual must demonstrate the
ability to organize successful fund-raising activities and to work with
volunteers and must have administrative experience.  A master’s degree
is required; however, a Ph.D. is preferred, and at least one degree must
be in a plant-related field.  USF is a Research University with 36,000
students and nearly 200 degree programs.  It is located in the vibrant
Tampa Bay Area, which is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas
