Herbivory Experiments -- need suggestions

Dear Plant-edders:

We have our students in General Biology do semester-long research projects
and this is the week that they are deciding who to work with and what to
do. I have a group of students who would like to investigate the feeding
preferences of caterpillars or beetles (or whatever -- they're not too
picky). They're interested in feeding them different fruits. I have
limited experience with this and so need suggestions of what might be good
species to use, that are also easily available, and also need to know
whether or not fruits are a good idea or should I steer them toward leaves
(and if so, of what species?).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
