Wil it grow??

Hi,

I know absolutely nothing about gardening or plants, and I don't know if 
anyone can answer this or not, but I have a problem/question. I opened up a 
mango the other day, and found a seed with a small 'bud' and a root. On a whim 

I stuck it in water. Now it's actually growing!! I live in Canada,and can't 
anything in any books about this. My question is, could it actully survive? 
When should I put it in soil? Anything special I should know or do?
I'd really like it to live if it can!
