Brian asks about the integrity of Mendel's work and Chris Cole has shared a
nice bibliography of relevant publications.  A recent book by Edward
Edelson discusses the charges by Sir Ronald Fisher and the responses that
ensued (p. 84-85).  Unfortunately, Edelson, while citing the authors,
doesn't provide a bibliography of the relevant papers!  This makes it
difficult to launch into further research on the topic.  There are several
other errors in the text which I recently reviewed for Science Books and
Films (in press).  Nevertheless, the Edelson book is a concise synopsis of
Mendel's life and work, a "quick read" that might be of interest to some:
