Dear plant -ed and cur-l folks:

Jeff Strait sent me the following message about the attachment I sent to
these lists yesterday. I've checked my computer files with a VirusScan
program for Windows NT that should pick up the Melissa virus and got the
result that my files are clean. Please let me know if you have also
detected the virus in the attachment. If you haven't opened the attachment,
don't open it now! I'll send it again after this is resolved.

Roxanne

Hi Roxanne,

I opened the Microsoft Word document attached to your "equipment questions"
e-mail message to the CUR-L listserve. The Word doc appears to be infected
with the Melissa Macro virus.

See the following URL for information about Melissa:

http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-99-04-Melissa-Macro-Virus.html

Please check your computer to see if it is infected. If so, you may have
transmitted the virus to the whole list and you should inform everybody
that they should not open the Word doc.

I am using a Macintosh, so Melissa did not do much damage to my computer.
It can cause PC users more problems.

Regards,
Jeff Strait
