I'm out of my area of expertise a bit - but I think the previous comment questioning the idea communication between plants is not completely correct. I am not aware of any evidence on communication about flowering time - but there is certainly communication about other things - such as methyl jasmonate as a signal that defense mechanisms need to be activated. ---
