My class watered plants with different concentrations
of salt water and then used the pressure bomb on leaves.
This gave more consistent results over a shorter
term than different (student) watering schemes with plain old
water. As someone remarked earlier, the plain watering
schemes tended to give healthy vs. dead rather than in
between.

In other permutations, one could test the significance of
osmotic strength vs. type of osmoticum.
