Jon,
  If the advertisement is for a free resource that may be of use to
members of plant-ed, I consider it a service rather than an advertisement
and would encourage it.  If it is selling something for a profit, then I
think we need to be careful not to set a precedent.  I gathered that what
Iris has in mind is non-profit.
