Dave,
Have you take an look at Michael Pollan's "Botany of Desire"? It may not 
cover plants and humans in quite the same way as the books you mention, 
but IS focused on the relationship between plants and humans (he covers 
apples, tulips, marijuana, and potatoes).   It's a good read and very 
evolutionary.
