Fellow Plant Telecommunicators:

FYI: there appears to be a new service being offered via InterNet
from the USDA...."in press abstracts" giving article title, author
contact information, an interpretive summary and a technical abstract.
Using email, one does a keyword search that returns index numbers
and titles. Then through email again, a request using the index number(s)
brings the entire entry text containing the info mention above.
I've appended a portion of a search request that explains how to use
this service.

These database can be searched via InterNet Email or BitNet Email.

Hope this information is useful to you.

                    RESEARCH RESULTS DATABASE

The Research Results Database (RRDB) brings together short
summaries of recent research results from the USDA's
Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and Economic Research
Service (ERS). New documents are added to the collection on a
monthly or bimonthly schedule.

If you would like to receive a monthly list of new RRDB titles,
send the following one-page message to almanac at esusda.gov:
   subscribe usda.rrdb
You will recieve a confirmation via electronic mail.

If you would like to obtain one or more documents from the list
of titles below, send the requests one per line to
almanac at esusda.gov using the following format:
   send rrdb xxx####
where "xxx" stands for "ars" or "ers" (letters must be in lower
case) and "####" is the document number. The documents will
be returned to you via electronic mail.

Finally, you may conduct a simple full-text search through the
RRDB documents by sending the following message to almanac:
   search rrdb words...
For example, to get a list of documents containing the words
"corn" or "wheat", send
   search rrdb corn wheat
A list of titles found will be sent to you via electronic mail.
(Here, keyword letters may be in upper or lower case.)

If you need further information concerning the use of almanac,
send the following one-line message to almanac at esusda.gov:
   send guide
If you have other questions concerning RRDB, contact
