TWO POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Population Biology of Transgenic Plants
Opportunity to join a multidisciplinary program investigating the ecological and
evolutionary consequences to a plant of carrying introduced genes. Initially,
work will entail genetic transformation of plants in the species Arabidopsis
thaliana and Brassica sp. In subsequent years, lab work will be combined with
field experiments. In this project, we will investigate how the production of
plant defensive compounds affect both plant performance and the evolution of
resistance in plant pests. Results will have implications for the risk
assessment of transgenic crops. Experience in gene manipulation and plant
transformation is desireable but not required. Opportunity to develop
independent projects. Duration of postdoctoral position and starting time are
both negotiable. If interested, send statement of research interests, CV,
reprints and names/ phone numbers of three personal references to Dr. Joy
Bergelson, Department of Biology, Box 1137, Washington University, St. Louis, MO
63130.
Population Biology of Arabidopsis thaliana
Opportunity to join an ongoing program studying the molecular evolution and
ecological interactions of natural populations of Arabidopsis thaliana.
Research focuses on both patterns and levels of natural genetic variation, as
well the ecological consequences of this variation for plant competitive
interactions. Initially, work will entail an RFLP study of natural populations.
In subsequent years, lab work will be combined with field experiments. Lab
experience is desireable but not required. Opportunity to develop independent
projects. Duration of postdoctoral position and starting time are both
negotiable. If interested, send statement of research interests, CV, reprints
and names/ phone numbers of three personal references to
Dr. Joy Bergelson, Department of Biology, Box 1137, Washington University, St.
