Just in case if you do not know what gopher is, there is a newsgroup called
alt.gopher where you will be able to find a FAQ. If you have acces to a
UNIX box, then you can FTP boombox.micro.umn.edu which is the main distribution
site, download the latest version, uncompress it, untar it and compile it
just typing "make" without the quotation marks. It is extremly well written
C code, so you don't really need to know C well (my case), just some minor
modifications in the Makefile and the header file will suffice.
