POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN PLANT-BACTERIAL INTERACTIONS

A position is available starting July 1, 1993 to study plant genes
involved in the development of the hypersensitive response (HR). The HR is a
well-known plant response that is associated with plant defense against
necrogenic plant pathogens. In collaboration with Drs. Alan Collmer, Steven
Beer and Robert Last (all at Cornell) the laboratory has made several advances
that will facilitate cloning of the genes that are involved in the development
of the HR. We have purified two proteinaceous elicitors of the HR (Wei et
al., 1992, Science 257, 85-88 and He et al., 1993, Cell 73, in press) and have
obtained putative Arabidopsis mutants impaired in the development of the HR.
Candidates should have experience in molecular biology. Experience with
plants and receptors is desirable but is not required. Please send curriculum
vitae and three references (after June 20, 1993) to: Dr. Sheng Yang He,
Department of Plant Pathology, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40546-
0091. Telephone: 606-257-2682, Fax: 606-258-1961. The University of Kentucky
is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
