The following, a draft copy of a notice that soon will be published in

ZEALAND.

Applications [will be] invited from suitably qualified persons to join a
small [8 academics] but vigorous teaching and research department. The
department has teaching responsibility for basic plant science (botany)
and at advanced level for plant physiology, cell and population biology,
plant biotechnology and developmental botany.

Major areas of research interest in the department are molecular and
physiological aspects of flower and seed development, transfer and

and allergy, mathematical analysis of DNA sequence data with
applications to questions of phylogeny and biogeography, and the flora
of New Zealand. The Department has close working links with
Horitcultural and Agricultural Plant Science, with the Molecular
Genetics Unit (Department of Microbiology and Genetics), and with the
Department of Ecology.

The ideal applicant will [be God, as usual ... sorry] have postdoctoral
experience and will have a research interest in any aspect of
contemporary plant science preferably using techniques of molecular
biology.

The appointee will be expected to teach within the areas of general
botany, with opportunity for advanced teaching in his/her specialist
area.

Applicants who may desire a joint appointment involving this Department
and neighboring Government-owned research companies [the so-called Crown
Research Institutes, including among others Hort+Research, the
Horticultural and Food Research Institute of New Zealand Ltd.] in the
areas of horticultural products, agricultural plant research and crop
and food research are also invited to apply. [!! the way to go IMHO]

Enquiries of an academic nature should be directed to Dr David Fountain,
Acting Head of Department, telephone +64 6 350 5135, fax +64 6 350 5623,
email dwfountain at massey.ac.nz.

An information package including Conditions of Appointment [will be,
when the job is formally advertised] obtainable by telephoning Massey
University, +64 6 356 9099 ext. 7318.

Applications [not yet! wait for the official word!] including a full
curriculum vitae and the names and addresses of three referees with
facsimile number if possible should be sent to Mrs V B Bretherton,
Personnel Section, Massey University, before the closing date specified
[this to alert Yankees to the fact that NZ university appointment

procedures are handled by University administration, not departments -
so don't send applications to Dave Fountain, he's got all the work he
can handle as it is].

Additional comments if desired may be had by emailing me - it is after
all the job I'm leaving behind that's on offer.
