Multiple origins of characters

Hello:

    I am trying to look at the genetic basis for multiple origins of 
characters in plants, using molecular quantitative genetic approach. 
But first I want to get some ideas about what has been done on this 
topic with classical genetic methods. Can anyone give me some 
references to start with? Any species, even in animals will do. Thank 
you very much in advance.
