We are currently revamping our introductory biology course-first course for
majors. One of the labs involves students germinating beans and removing the
root tip, fixing it, and staining with fuschin (sp?-posting for someone else).
Do you have any recommondations on:
  a) plant species which will work well that introductory students can grow
  b) fixative
  c) chromosome stain and method
  d) post-staining handling, ie. squash, section

Thank you in advance
