Safe and effective insecticides that can be used in a greenhouse/ aviary are those botanical ones containing the active ingredient azadiractin, derived from the seeds of the Neem tree (Azadiracta indica), native to southern Asia. Commercial brands now available in the USA are Bioneem, Neemix, and Margosan-O. Somewhat pricey, but highly effective against whiteflies, aphids, mealybugs, caterpillars, and thrips.

Birds roost and sing all the day long in my Neem trees with impunity.Indians use all parts of the tree to treat a wide variety of ailments.
