Yes, it does sound like a Monstera. The ones I have seen bearing fruit
in California have been in very protected locations (under the eves)
outside, planted in the ground...always near the coast in
nearly-frost-free locations.
Before you try to eat your fruit, do read up on how to gauge ripeness. I
understand they ripen one segment at a time...and you definately do NOT
want to try and eat an unripe piece.
