Terrestrial Plant Ecologist

Terrestrial Plant Ecologist at the Assistant Professional Scientist level
(Full-time, State-supported in the INHS Center for Biodiversity).

Champaign, Illinois (University of Illinois campus).

Job Description:
The successful applicant will be responsible for developing an independent
research program that: (1) incorporates ecosystem, community, and/or
landscape scale processes, (2) has management implications for Illinois
ecosystems, and (3) involves field work combining both descriptive and
experimental approaches.  Expertise in Geographic Information System
technology is preferred. 

The Center for Biodiversity acquires and applies information pertaining to
the diversity of life in order to protect, manage, and develop the biotic
resources of Illinois in accordance with long-term environmental goals. 
Many scientists with the Center for Biodiversity have affiliate
appointments at the University of Illinois.

Ph.D. degree in plant ecology or related discipline is required. 
Candidates must have: (1) a thorough background in plant biology, (2)
extensive field experience, (3) the ability to conduct, and to attract
funding for, independent research activities, (4) the aptitude to express
thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to the scientific and lay
communities, and (5) a record of publications in peer-reviewed, nationally
recognized scientific journals.

$36,000 to 39,000.  

Vacation equal to 27 days/year plus 11 holidays.  Sick leave equal to 12
days/year.  State Universities Retirement System.  State Health Insurance.

 March 1995.
