Another Oregonian with slug condos, i.e., raised beds.  I use grapefruit
halfs (after eating) placed upside down in slug area.  They feed at night,
as daylight approaches, they "look" for a drak humid location to hide. 
Under the grapefruit they have been feeding on.  Pick up in morning and
place slugs in soapy water. Or place carboard on soil.  Slugs like the
glue in cardborad, pick up and place slugs in soapy water.
