textbook for general physiology

I will be teaching a course next semester that deals with general physiology an
d development.  It will be offered to Sophomores and deals with both the plant
and animal kingdom.  Does anyone know of a text which covers both of these king
doms?  Alternatively, are there any short/paperbacks that deal with either king
dom?
